Innerleithen is at the heart of the Picturesque Tweed Valley. Being just 30 miles (50Km) from Edinburgh and surrounded by forests, golf courses and, of course, the River Tweed, Innerleithen is an ideal place to come for an activity break. Some of the best mountain biking in the world is available just up the road in the forests of Glentress and Innerleithen. Close by is the new McDonald's Cardrona hotel and up toward Peebles is the famous 4 star Peebles Hotel Hydro, or if you prefer, there are numerous B&Bs and several camping and caravanning sites.
Just to the South of Innerleithen is Traquair House, the oldest continuously inhabited building in Scotland. In 2007, it celebrates its 900th year and there are many events available throughout the summer. Originally a hunting lodge for royalty, it now has plenty for the visitor, including the house, grounds, maze, workshops, restaurant and its own Traquair Brewery. Not far from innerleithen is Rosslyn Chapel. Made famous by Dan Brown's book, The Da Vinci Code, it is a few miles South of Edinburgh centre in Roslin village on the A703 road to Penicuik and nearby Peebles.
