Large Google map of Perth High St. |
Perth has an enviably position on the River Tay. Not only is it a beautiful area in the heart of Scotland but it is also just about one hour, by rail or road, from both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Hence, it is not surprising that Perth has a thriving business community and a fantastic pedestrianised High Street full of every shop you could ever need. Perth High St and the town are flanked by the River Tay to the East and two parks, North Inches and South Inches, to, not surprisingly, the North And South. Whilst some will enjoy the bustle of Perth, others may prefer the quieter locations of Auchterarder and Crieff to the West or Pitlochry, Dunkeld and Blairgowrie to the North. Just out of Perth is Scone Palace where Macbeth, Robert the Bruce and Charles II were crowned. A lot of events are held in the grounds throughout the year, including falconry displays and the opportunity to meet characters from history. Check out the Scone Palace website for details. The climate and fertile soil have encouraged a number of gardens to spring up around Perth and eleven of these Perthshire Gardens are open to the public. More can be found on the area by following this link to Perthshire or, alternatively, this link for more detailed imformation on Perth. General information about the county is on the Perthshire website. |
