Forres is a delightful little town on the A96, some 28 miles East of Inverness. The Forres High Street is alive with small shops that can meet all your basic needs. Forres is in a wonderful setting that has its own micro-climate. Right in the heart of the Whisky Trail, there are 2 distilleries right on the doorstop. The sandy open beaches of Findhorn and Roseile are close by and the Cairngorm mountains are about 45 minutes drive. Forres is a Royal Burgh and has some wonderful gardens and parks.
Highlights include the annual Forres Theme Day, a vintage car rally that attracts hundreds of cars and visitors; this year's superb event was on Sunday 16th July in Grant Park. Forres Scottish Week is a week of cultural, musical, historical, sporting and social events. 2006 saw the High Street closed to traffic on 3 occasions for the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, ranked number 3 in the world; a mile run through the town; and the Toun Mercat, local market stalls for everyone. The nearby Findhorn Foundation is a world famous, unique, spiritual community, education centre and ecovillage that welcomes the curious and is well worth a visit. Well done those with a sharp eye who spotted that the picture used on the High.St home page is Forres High St. More about the Royal Burgh of Forres or Forres in Bloom can be found by clicking the appropriate link.
